Be scrupulous about the risk of preferred stock investing
This is a fitting book but reader needs to be careful about the riskinvolved in preferred forerunner investing. Half of the purchases madeby the author in 2006 was not sold yet, and as of Apr 27, these sharesare down on usually about 15% in market value. Even if you look on the9-10% in dividends that had been paid, you are in all likelihood still 5-6%underwater. One of the purchases is CFC-B, which went from 25 to 6at one nucleus only to come back to 14 as of Apr 27. I am not sureif the norm reader would have the stomach to withstand this kindof rank down. Since many preferred stocks were issued by financecompanies, I fancy purchase made by the author prior to Aug 2007may suffer honest heavier paper losses.Reader who buy this paperback with the expectation of getting 12% returnwith bare little risk and retire needs to be realisticI organize many stock trading systems that returned on avg of 30% for 6-7years in repayment...
An undemanding to understand, easy to impliment system
Specific things struck me about Preferred Stock Investing. Doug K. Le Du's expos style leaves you feeling like you're reading something from an old colleague. The book is very comfortable to read and easy to get it. But the most remarkable part is how frequently I found myself view like "ah hah, of course this would work this way." Contrasting with many other investment books that I've announce, it is really clear how and why the preferred stock investment method that is described in the libretto would work, with very little application. And all of the preferred stocks for years listed in the book too so you don't have to take it on front faith; the book includes the investment results, using the method that the tome describes. In the beginning of the book, the author says that if you are a considerable-risk taking day trader looking for a quick 25% profit, this book is not for you; this is correct. This register is for low-risk, methodical investors who do not want to spend a lot of convenience life studying their...
Misleading!
This volume's advice is misleading, and this is unfortunate given that it's one of the solitary publications available on preferred stocks.1. The author fails to period out the major underlying risks of preferred securities. Preferreds are solely one step above regular stocks in credit safety, should the issuing secure declare bankruptcy. Firms that issue preferreds can and do flunk, often wiping out the preferred investors. And yet the author suggests that the hazard of preferreds is "CD-like" (FDIC insured up to $100,000) wholly the book. Not true!2. The author conveniently ignores the d "cannonball" price curve in his visual graphics, thereby implying that most preferreds go up in price after issuance and then recede in times past down to par at the redemption or call date. When rates fly and/or the issuing firm suffers in performance (think Countrywide!) prices wishes fall and may stay low, NOT recovering to par at the first call beau. An investor may not be able...

Best book
At first have a shufti, this book may appear to be an updated second copy of Ken's 2007 book, Preferreds: Wall Street's Most suitable Kept Income Secret. Although written on the other hand three years ago, that was actually a long without surcease in the current investment environment. The first book is an overview on what was then an bordering on forgotten investment instrument. This book is a commentary of the basics, and a retelling of the dramatic events that hold occurred in the past few years. In Preferred Stocks, Ken also provides common-sense advice on how to invest in an understudied asset class.
The Trounce Investment Book I've Read This Year!
I suffer with followed Ken Winans' research for years, and believe it to be some of the most ingenious work in the investment business. This is his best log yet! It offers a lot of valuable insight into the process of investing not start in other books.
With vivaciousness, Winans reminds us an oft-forgotten investment
The preferred helping is the platypus of the investing world. It's not quite a stock and not quite a contract. It is just a little bit complicated, what with its creditation rating and yield-to-call and so on. It is likely to underperform when the market-place goes on an upwards tear or into a major immerse. Preferreds are not easy to research at places like Yahoo! Assets. Big institutions usually avoid them because they're too thinly traded. No meditate most of us forget to even consider investing in preferred shares.Prearranged all that, Ken Winans has achieved something remarkable. He shows us that preferreds greengrocery good risk-adjusted returns when markets are sinuous--as they do much of the time. And he makes persuasive anyway a lest that since most people forget preferred stocks, they should be a chief of any smart investor's life.
